Snowboard training is not essential, but it can make the learning process much less painful. Snowboarding is a board sport, and like all board sports it traces its ancestry back to surfing. If you’ve ever surfed, you know that in a wipeout the water turns out to be a lot harder than it looks, not to mention the possibility of being smacked by your board. Now imagine the water is frozen, and that your board is strapped to your feet.
You may at that point be in a good position to understand why snowboard training can ease your pain. Learning to snowboard is a rewarding experience, but you will fall, and it will not feel good. Having an instructor around to ease you into the hang of things is a great idea if you can afford it.
One of the best things you can learn in snowboard training is how to fall. It may seem counterintuitive to learn how to do what you’re trying to avoid doing, but falling correctly saves you from a host of possible injuries, from concussions, to fractured wrists, to torn ACLs. Even the least serious of those, a concussion, can have long lasting repercussions; the other two may require surgery. Understanding how to fall without hurting yourself is an excellent idea, and if you’re not sure, training is the way to go.
Snowboard packages include more than just a board, they have bindings, and sometimes even boots included as well.
